Have you ever had a dream of doing something so big that it brought tears to your eyes? Dreaming of reaching possibly the highest goal you have ever set before yourself, but humbled because you know that on your own you cannot achieve it? Fiercely knowing that you are called to do it, but afraid of stepping out on your own.
Have you ever noticed how many times the Lord’s protection is referred to as refuge under his wings? Upon closer inspection, it makes for a very comforting and also invigorating picture of God’s love for his children.
How comforting it is to know that God longs to gather his children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings (Matthew 23:37). He longs to have us near him and to surround us with his love.
In the Psalms we read that we can take refuge under his wings, that He will protect us from danger and hides us from the enemy (Psalm 91:4, 36:7, 61:4). He protects us as a bird protects its nest. (Isaiah 31:5)
He encourages us to get out of our comfort zones and take flight, yet he never leaves us, catching us with his spread out wings and carries us on his wings to safety (Deuteronomy 32:11).
As we place our hope in the Lord, He will renew our strength and let us “soar high on wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31 NLT) , leading us and guiding us over every obstacle with a renewed strength that comes from trusting in Him.
We don’t have to attempt to do everything on our own. The Bible tells us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippines 4:13). Give your fears to God and trust Him to let you soar towards your dreams. Write your dreams down where you can see them and bring them before the Lord. Ask Him whether it is what He wants you to focus on and trust in His guidance.
May your heart’s desires come true as you set your eyes on Jesus.
