In 2012, I had an assistant working with me in the finance department. When we were extremely busy, she would smile and say that we must do what the ducks do… be calm on top of the surface and paddle like mad underneath to stay afloat.
Last week, as I spent time talking to the Lord, a different thought came to mind: to be like a duck, but peaceful and waterproof.
Let me explain.
Peaceful
To be peaceful is to be quiet and free from disturbance. Synonyms: calm, tranquil, serene and placid. (Source Merriam-Webster dictionary)
In other words, not paddling fiercely to stay afloat, but gently walking in your calling, knowing you have peace with God and that in him, you are secure.
John 16:33 KJV
[33] These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Waterproof
Ducks are waterproof. When I considered this, I thought about how easy it is to take offense, yet it should just roll off us like water from a duck.
I believe that at the right time in his own gentle way, the Lord shows us things in our lives that we should overcome. Taking offense is such a challenge for me. It seems that just as I think that I have grown immune to it, something happens. Yet the Lord keeps on reminding me that when I rely on his power and strength, I can overcome anything.
Do you sometimes overthink things a lot?
That is what I do sometimes, and then because of that, I take too many things onto myself. Let’s face it, nobody has a good day everyday, just because they are having a bad one doesn’t mean you have to let it control your day.
We have to be waterproof and let it just roll right off of us.
Even though we should be like a duck in some ways, we should be like a sponge when it comes to the Word of God. We have to become so saturated that we cannot take in anything negative but instead are dripping out life-giving water to those surrounding us.
John 7:38 KJV
[38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
What areas in your life have the Holy Spirit prompt you to grow in?
May the Lord bless you and keep you! May you have peace that surpasses all understanding and rely on the strength of Jesus to see you through every challenge.
Growing with you!
