What is next?

One of the most frequently asked questions is: What is next?

What is for dinner next? What should I do next? Who should I meet next? What hobby should I try next? What must I learn next?

It seems that  most people want to move forward, which is great, but what if you are stuck in the moment and can not move on to the next thing? How will you react? What will you do?

With the change of seasons, we become aware of how time is moving forward. Suddenly, you realise that we are midway through the year and you start to wonder what is going to happen next.

Are you at the point of having to stop and ask the question, “What is next?” Do you know whether you are going into a new season or if you are remaining?

Midway through the year, I like to look at the goals I planned to achieve: What did I complete and what is still a work in progress. It helps me to answer the “What is next?” question. Can you move on to something new when you haven’t completed previous goals?

The answer is yes! Not all goals will be completed simultaneously. Just because one is still a work in progress shouldn’t mean that all areas of your life should now grind to a halt.

What goals have you achieved up until now? Are you satisfied with your progress? Should any target dates be rethought, or are they realistic? Is there room for rest?

God didn’t intend for us to work endlessly without any rest. Take time to celebrate your completed goals. Thank the Lord for enabling you to complete them.

Hebrews 4:10 KJV

[10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Before thinking about what to do next, take time to simply be with Jesus. Your relationship with him is more important than what you have achieved or are going to achieve. Take the time you have in between finished and starting new goals to grow in him.

Don’t rush into your next season or next set of goals without resting in the Lord. Just as your body needs refreshment, so does your soul. It doesn’t need to be a long pause, just long enough to replenish your energy and passion for your purpose.

Keep on taking small breaks in between, so you can finish the year as strong as you started it.

May all your plans succeed, and may you draw ever closer to God.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 KJV

[11] For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. [12] Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. [13] And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
