Last year I did a short course on music composition. I usually compose music as I hear it in my head and wanted to look at other methods to help me create a better melody with fuller sound and add a little bit more ornamentation in strategic places.
The one thing that I became very aware of is that you can write a tune, but you cannot create something beautiful without adding dynamics, tempo, or articulation to it. The rhythm may be in place, the tonality pleasing to you, but without putting some emotion into it, it will sound empty.
As I was playing a piece from another composer recently, I became aware of the fact that if I haven’t studied the history behind the piece and the life of this composer, I wouldn’t understand his motivation for writing it. I wouldn’t be able to add sufficient emotion to it.
Have you ever considered that if we don’t know who God is and how much he loves us as his children, that we wouldn’t be able to really appreciate who he has made us to be? That you won’t be able to do the things that God has planned for you to do? That you won’t be able to prosper and live an abundant life?
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I know how much God loves me? Spend time reading John 3:16 and ask the Lord to reveal his love for you.
- What is holding me back from believing that I am worthy of God’s love?
So many times we think that we need to do something or act in a certain way to earn God’s love. While the only thing that we need to do is seek his presence and believe that through Jesus’s death on the cross we were washed white as snow. Yes, we need to live holy lives. The Bible teaches us how to live lives pleasing unto God, lives set apart for him and that we are co-labourers with Christ, but ultimately it all starts with loving God and believing that Jesus has redeemed you and that the Holy Spirit is your helper and will lead you into the life that God has planned for you.
Psalm 16:11 KJV "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."
When we seek God’s presence, he will guide us through his Spirit into all things that are true, so that our thoughts and attitudes can be renewed. In his presence we will become joyful and refreshed. When we praise God for all that he has done and remind ourselves of his holiness, we will find that we will pursue to be like Jesus every day. We will receive forgiveness from our past sins and accept it. (Read and reflect on Romans 8:1-2) We can focus on the Kingdom and the good works that God wants us to do.
I encourage you to read Ephesians 3:14 to 21. Meditate on the scriptures and let them take root in your heart.
God loves you and he wants a relationship with you. May you seek him daily so that you will know how to perform the melody that is your life as God has planned before you were even born.
Growing with you!
