Letting Go of Fear: Trusting in God

Fear can be an overwhelming feeling. It can cause you to freeze or flee. It can cause you to react in ways that is unexpected and out of character. Yet the Word teaches us that we have not been given a spirit of fear.

What are you afraid of that is hindering your progress with the works you are currently doing for the Lord?

I was born again in Christ in 2014. At that point of time I struggled a lot with past hurts and had serious trust issues. During October I did a Victory course through one of the local churches in South Africa. It opened my eyes to sin in my own life: unforgiveness towards those who have hurt me.

Ephesians 3:17-19 KJV

[17] that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, [18] may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; [19] and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

At the end of the course we received an individual prophetic message. My message was that there was a beautiful rose garden. In the garden was a cage and there was a bird in the cage. The door of the cage was open, but the bird remained inside. God was calling me to come out of the things that kept me in bondage, and fear played a large role in this.

You see, I didn’t understand that God loved me. That not forgiving others and fear of what people may think of me, the real me, was keeping me from a true relationship with God and from stepping into the purpose God has for me.

My journey with forgiveness started that day. I wanted to be free, I didn’t want to live in bondage, but first I had to understand and accept that God loves me. This remains a continual journey that I am on, as it seems that every day there is a new revelation of God’s love for his children.

What truth about God’s love for you are you still struggling with?

If you are where I was, inside a cage too afraid to step out into the garden, I want to encourage you to take a step of faith. Trust in God who loves you. He has opened a door for you that no one can shut, but you need to walk through it.

It won’t be the easiest thing that you could do, but it will be worth it.

In Isaiah 43:19 God says that he is doing a new thing. We cannot experience new things if we don’t let go of the old things that is holding us captive.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the things you should let go of.

May 2026 be a year of new and fresh revelation for you about God’s love for you. May you be filled with courage to step out of your comfort zone and into the new things the Lord is leading you towards. May you learn to rely on His strength and power as you place your trust in Him. In Jesus Name, amen.

All glory to God forever and ever.
