Part 1 : Free because of Christ
What does it mean to be truly free?

In this two part series, we’ll discuss:
- Being spiritually set free by Christ
- Accepting your freedom
- Letting go of your past
- Stepping into your God-given future
Being spiritually set free by Christ
In previous posts I have already shared some parts of my journey of being set free. In different areas of my life I had to learn to let Jesus shine his light in the dark places. To let the joy of the Lord fill my heart. And make a decision to remain free.
John 8:32 KJV "and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
The first step I had to take in my walk with the Lord was to know the truth. Not just know about it, but to truly see the truth of Jesus. To acknowledge that God loved me, that Jesus died on the cross for me, and that as my shepherd he guides me and protects me. Supplying everything that I need, because he cares for me.
“I had to let go of my human measurements and embrace a God who works outside of it.”
What truth about God’s love for you do you need to acknowledge?
Once I accepted the truth, I had to learn to submit to God. I had to learn that Jesus is my king and that everything I do should be to the glory of him who are worthy of all of our praises and honour.
The prayer of salvation isn’t just a commitment to follow, it is a commitment to submit.
When you reflect on your journey up until now, what areas in your life do you need to fully submit to the Lord?
Accepting your freedom
As you reflect on your life at this point of time, who would you say you are in Christ?
Journal time!
- Write down all the truths you know about who you are in Christ.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any areas where you are unsure.
- Find scripture to replace any untruths the Holy Spirit showed you.
- Start to renounce these untruths out loud and declare the truth instead.
Romans 12:2 says that we should renew our minds and not let worldly untruths turn us away from who God says we are, thereby conforming us to the world. The battle for our souls are in our minds. Often times we find it hard to accept our freedom in Christ because the world wants us to believe the untruths. By replacing these untruths with the Word of God, we are yielding our spiritual sword and can break the strongholds that want to keep us in bondage.
Jesus came to give us life and he came so that we can live abundantly. The enemy wants to steal from you and destroy the confidence you have placed in God. You have the power through Jesus to stop his attacks!
Romans 10:17 KJV "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
To truly accept the freedom that God gave you through Christ Jesus, growing your faith will be key.
This coming week, read through Ephesians chapters 1 and 2. As you read through the scripture, write down all the truths about who you are in Christ.
This isn’t the only book in the bible that helps us to see ourselves as God sees us, but it is a good start for those who need to grow in a deeper understanding of their identity.
May you experience the presence of the Lord as you delve deeper into who you are in Jesus. Looking forward to continuing on the journey of living a life of freedom in part 2 of this mini series.
