A Fresh Start: Unburdened, free & renewed

Part 1: Declutter

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:31 – 32 KJV

You just have to search on the internet for benefits of decluttering your space, to find loads of information and advise. My decluttering journey started after my first child was born, and I realized that in the blink of an eye, it is possible to gather more than you can handle.

For me decluttering was a process of deciding what to keep, give away, discard or sell. In all honesty, it was actually more difficult than I would have imagined. Some items felt so dear to me, that even though they were stored in boxes because they were out of style, I just couldn’t bring myself to let go.

What items do you have in your home that you would rather store than let go of?

Just as in decluttering our homes, we should also do a spiritual decluttering from time to time. Letting go of past hurts is sometimes the hardest, but ultimately if you don’t let go, you choose to keep it and the fruit of it will remain in your life.

"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old." Isaiah 43:18

When we don’t let go, we don’t make room for the new things God wants to do in our lives. Our minds are trapped in remembering the things that hurt us instead of focusing on the goodness of God in our lives.

What past hurt can you give to Jesus so that you can have room for His goodness?

After you have chosen to let go of past hurts, it is good to close the door on it by forgiving the person who caused the hurt. Forgiveness shifts your mind from a selfish perspective to one that places others first. It doesn’t mean what they did was right, it means that you are free from carrying the burden because you have given it to God.

In the same way, we should deal with generational curses and ungodly soul ties. Severing these are very important for generations to come, but it takes courage and perseverance on your side. It takes forgiving the person who introduced it into the generational bloodline and also cutting and severing ties with it.

Jesus has given us authority that by His name, we are able to cast down strongholds and drive out demons, but we have to take the first step. These are things that we want to discard, as they have no use in our lives other than to let the enemy steal from us.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any curses or ungodly soul ties that are keeping you and your family from experiencing God’s abundance.

As children of God, we don’t give away spiritual things we don’t want in our lives. Instead we live generous lives and bless others with our blessings. These things are priceless and therefore cannot be placed in the market place with a “For Sale” board attached to it.

Ask the Lord to align your thoughts with His thoughts towards others.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

Conclusion

After you have decluttered various areas of your home or office, you feel a lightness and freshness, in the same way it is how it feels when we declutter our spiritual lives.

As a new habit, after the first major decluttering session (which was a truckload of stuff), I encourage everyone in the household to declutter at least once a year. Whether it is clothing items or unnecessary paperwork, we continuously create a clean environment to live or work in, and have room for new things that may come our way.

Write the answer to the questions asked above.

What scripture can you take hold of to help you to live a life free from spiritual clutter? Write it down.

I hope this post has encouraged you to do both a physical as well as a spiritual decluttering so that you have room for more blessings and new things to happen in your life.

Blessings

Catherina
