Silencing the lies that steals your peace

Who is controlling your thoughts?

These past 7 weeks, my husband and I attended a marriage course. We didn’t enroll because we thought our marriage was lacking. Instead, after spending weeks apart last year and earlier this year, we recognised that our relationship needed care.

Sometimes relationships need maintenance. Just as we take our vehicles into a mechanic for a service, we must maintain our relationships – especially the one we have with our spouses. We went into the course thinking this would be a good refresher but came out realising it was essential. Without it some parts of our marriage could have suffered in the long run.

Maintaining relationships can be challenging. Currently, it is easy to become self-focused and overwhelmed by all the information out there. Technology is meant to make communication easier, but it can easily take our focus of the people beside us.

In the final session of our marriage course, we explored our individual love languages. For years, I couldn’t understand why I felt lonely, even with people all around me. I now recognise that spending quality time with others is my love language. When I don’t spend time with others, I can begin to feel rejected, neglected and abandoned.

It is no wonder that my year started with these scripture words dropping in my spirit:

“I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” (See Hebrews 13:5, Joshua 1:5, Deut. 31:6)

This verse became my sword against feelings of loneliness. When thoughts like: “No one loves me”, “No one cares”, “I am alone” or “People doesn’t like me” arise; I must actively take them captive. I answer them with the truth: Jesus said that He will never leave me.

2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 KJV “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

To take a thought captive is to bring it under control rather than allowing it to control you.

I hope that this has blessed you. The battle in our minds is real, but God have not left us defenceless. He has given us the armour we need to recognise harmful thoughts, take them captive, and stand on His truth.

God bless

Catherina
