Last Saturday as I was praying about what the Lord wanted me to write about in this post, I was reminded of the life of Mary Magdalene. We don’t know the whole story, but we can certainly learn from the woman she was.

She was delivered and chose to follow Jesus

In Luke 8 we are introduced to Mary Magdalene as a women out of whom 7 demons were cast out of. Her deliverance led her to support Jesus’s ministry.

We read that she and several other women supported the ministry out of their own funds. To be generous with our resources is a privilege. Jesus didn’t need their gifting, yet he received it. God knows how important it is to our mental and physical health to be able to give.

Proverb 11:25 KJV "The liberal soul shall be made fat: And he that watereth shall be watered also himself."

What has God placed in your hands that could support the ministry of those who work for Kingdom purposes or that you can use to show God’s love to others?

She stayed until the end

Mary Magdalene and the other women witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. She stayed and watched as Jesus’s body was removed for burial by Joseph and saw where he was buried. Afterward they returned home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. (Luke 23:56)

How can we be faithful until the end and remain faithful even afterwards?

She lived a life of obedience

When Mary Magdalene and the other women went back the Sunday, they found that Jesus was no longer there. When the angel told them what had happened, the women went to tell the disciples immediately. On their way, Jesus met them! (Luke 24, John 20, Matthew 28)

Can you think of a time that you obeyed immediately and encountered God’s presence because of it?

Where are you in your journey of following Jesus?

Perhaps you have been delivered from sin and bondage and is just now starting out. Or perhaps you have been following Him for some time now and have to build endurance to continue your race. Wherever you are, you can be certain that you are not alone. Jesus knows where you have been and where you are.

Hebrews 12:1 - 2 KJV "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Like Mary Magdalene, we can make the choice to follow and obey until the end. We can keep on looking to Jesus for our strength to endure the trials and tribulations and trust the guidance of the Holy Spirit to finish the race with patience.
